About the Seminar

The complex and the diverse world of disability has become an emerging area of

academic enquiry in contemporary times. Scholarship on disability studies have come out based

on social and medical model of disability in different parts of the world and research in the field

is advancing steadily. In India too, a nascent disability school of thought is gradually emerging

focusing on the socio-cultural realities of Indian society. However, the micro issues and local

narratives of disability of a lesser represented region like North-East India is hardly visible in the

mainstream Indian disability studies. Of course the experience of disability in the peripheral

region like North- East which is marked by economic backwardness, lack of proper

infrastructure, insurgency, conflict etc. is definitely different from mainland Indian experience.

Hence, the national seminar is an endeavour to engage scholars and academics across disciplines

like Literature, History, Political Science, Law, Social Work etc. to advance knowledge in the

field.
